Websites gear up for 2014 Equestrian Social Media Awards

As 2013 draws to a close it is an opportunity for many to reflect on their achievements over the last 12 months.

One defining force of the past year has been the rise and rise of social media. Every organisation worth knowing has a presence on the likes of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube and the days of simply having a website just doesn't cut it. This attitude is also prevalent in equestrian and on January 20th 2014 the industry will see some of the very best organisations honoured for their digital offerings.

The 2014 Equine Online Equestrian Social Media Awards has been welcoming public nominations since November and the voting closes on December 20th. The event is designed to recognise publications that are at the forefront of providing up-to-date information to competitors and fans alike about the recent goings on in the equestrian world. Not only that but the public was also asked to provide a supporting statement explaining why they enjoy the social media coverage.

Organisers said that this year will be a little different with two awards being contested in each category. There will be both the Judges' Choice and the People's Choice awards, the former will be chosen by a panel of experts while the public will get the opportunity to determine the latter. It allows firms to see how they are performing in the public, ensuring that they are meeting the demands of their target audience.

Five new categories have been introduced to the awards including: website (<20,000 visitors pcm), website (>20,000 visitors pcm), e-commerce site, mobile/tablet application and rich media. Organisers believe that these sections will help to showcase digital excellence beyond social media.

There are also prestigious prizes up for grabs with the winner of the Equestrian Creatives category will be in line to claim a portfolio on the Equestrian Creative Network, free for a year.
